Paulo Afonso – Destination

The city of Paulo Afonso is located the banks of the São Francisco River and has a famous set of waterfalls with a height from up to 80 meters that feed a hydroelectric complex in Paulo Afonso. What attract tourists to Paulo Afonso is the natural beauty of the place and the practice of adventure tourism. The ecological reserve from the Raso da Catarina, Serra do Umbuzeiro and the canyon of San Francisco, are the most popular spots for these adventurers. The iconic Lampião, the Cangaceiro and his gang, has covered many trails of these sites in the past.

We cannot forget to see the house where Maria Bonita, wife of Lampião, was born, known as the Queen of Cangaço. Aboard a catamaran, you can do an amazing ride through the canyons of the San Francisco River, watching all the magnificence of its granite walls that can get up to 110 meters high with amazing colors. The region is also rich in places to practice rappel, ziplinning and other adventure sports. The local craft is another attraction that preserves an ancient tradition: the art of weaving on hand looms, where entire families produce mats, nets, quilts, cushions, among others.
